What is Ansul Servicing?
Ansul Servicing is the regular maintenance and upkeep of Ansul fire suppression systems.
Ansul is the market leading brand for kitchen suppression systems with Ansul R-102 being the top kitchen fire suppression system in the world. Ansul R-102 is a mechanical system which uses a wet chemical suppressant to quickly and effectively extinguish kitchen fires without creating a huge mess, limiting the disruption to your commercial or industrial kitchen and business.
The scheduled inspection and testing of your Ansul kitchen fire suppression system is to ensure that it remains in optimum condition and full working order, to protect you and your business in the event of a fire emergency.
How Often Should Ansul Servicing Take Place?
Ansul Servicing is required every six months to ensure optimal performance and compliance with the manufacturer and safety standards. Insurers and statutory bodies will require evidence that systems have been appropriately maintained as part of your agreement and to validate any possible claims.
Given the high temperatures involved in kitchens, and the busy nature of commercial and industrial kitchens, the risk of fire is high. Semi-annual maintenance is therefore required to ensure that your system is fully operational and will activate successfully when required in the unexpected event of a fire.
As well as the semi-annual service, the system requires a 10 year overhaul ensuring the tanks are hydro-tested, nitrogen gas cartridges replaced, and the regulators flow tested.

What Happens in the Semi-Annual Ansul Servicing Examination?
When you arrange Ansul system servicing, a certified Ansul technician will conduct a comprehensive service of your entire system. It’s crucial that the inspection encompasses multiple stages to ensure both you and the technician can be confident that the system is functioning correctly.
Some of the important checks included in Ansul servicing are:
- Checking the actuation line is correctly connected, with all fittings secured tight, and no leaks.
- Blow through test to check that the agent distribution pipe work is clear of debris which could block the nozzles.
- Examine blow off caps and all nozzles and replacing any ‘o’ rings / rubber blow off caps that are deteriorated.
- Checking to ensure that the nozzle type and placement is correct for the current appliance layout.
- Checking and testing the detection line to ensure the appropriate tension and correct rapid response to activate the system.
- Inspecting each nitrogen cartridge and agent tank, ensuring that each is filled to the required level.
- Manually testing the regulated release assembly by operating the manual pull station, inspecting the pull station for any damage in the process.
- Replacement of all fusible links.
After the completion of the service, the system is re-instated and left active. The engineer will record the date of service on equipment where appropriate and provide you with a completed service and test certificate for your records. A comprehensive report will be completed detailing the condition of the system and any necessary repairs.
What Are the Benefits of Ansul Servicing?
There are several obvious benefits to ensuring the regular maintenance of your Ansul system. Knowing that your kitchen fire suppression system is in full working order and operational gives you peace of mind and confidence that your property is protected, and that if disaster does strike, your business will not be severely disrupted.
Ansul systems are so effective that most kitchens can re-open within hours of a fire and the system successfully activating. We know how important it is to get your business back up and running with minimal disruption. It is therefore important to ensure that your system is working properly. If not, any fire that starts could grow and cause widespread damage to your property, impacting your business operation, incurring costs and lost revenue.
Ansul servicing not only helps protects the short-term effectiveness of your system, but it also helps extend the life of your system long term. Reducing costs further down the line.
Keeping your Ansul system maintained is a requirement to comply with health & safety regulations, as well as any rules enforced by law or your insurers.
