Trainee Accountant
Job Description
Job Role Summary
We are currently looking to recruit an efficient, energetic, self-motivated and confident Trainee Accountant to join our team. We are a small office team and require our employees to be team players, hardworking, friendly and portray the company’s high standard of customer service. You will be enthusiastic, keen to learn, able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to use your own initiative. The role will involve liaising with customers, suppliers and colleagues, supporting all Accounts functions including invoice processing, credit control, journal entries, management accounts preparation, monthly reporting and reconciliations.
The position will require you to undertake various other duties as and when required.
Job Description
- Delivering effective financial support and project implementation to the wider business
- Both bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support quarterly VAT return preparations
- Assist with the production of the monthly management accounts and subsequent journals
- Assisting with both quarterly and year end audit work
- Handle significant amounts of data on Excel and produce analysis to present to senior team members
- Assist with systems management as well as any system improvements that should be required
- To answer and direct internal and external phone calls in a polite and professional manner
- To write and distribute business emails, correspondence memos, letter and forms
- To assist in the preparation of regular and ad-hoc scheduled reports
- To support and maintain an efficient filing system
- To liaise with HR to ensure the latest policies and procedures are issued
- To comply with all other reasonable requests made
- Researching company accounts and corporate information to support the senior executive team as required
- Hands on support and involvement in purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control routines
Person Specification
- Accountancy/Finance graduate or equivalent or AAT qualified via work related training
- Actively looking to qualify as CIMA/ACCA/ACA or similar
- Advanced user of Excel capable of handling large data volume as well as V Look-Ups and Pivot Tables
- Hold previous experience in accounting systems as well as reconciliations
- Have exposure to SAGE systems is beneficial but not a barrier for the right candidate
- Computer literate and proficient in other MS Office (Inc. Word, Outlook & PowerPoint)
- Excellent Administration skills
- Organised with an attention to detail
- Excellent Customer Service skills – internal and external customers
- Strong ability to build and maintain successful relationships
- Good communication skills with a confident, professional telephone manner
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask
- Strong work ethic
- Proactive and flexible approach with a ‘can do’ attitude
