The most common Mis-conception is that these are fire systems. Unfortuatley they are not. What they are is a highly sensitive smoke detector, which sucks air through a pipe and calculates the amount of particles in the sampled air and reacts accordingly.

These units are ideal in areas where the the risk of fire is high and the early warning of smoke is a must. They are also good in areas where smoke detectors just can’t go, for example in Roof voids where access for maintenance would be difficult and areas where temperatures can be in their extremes.
